![]() My goal here is to invest in aircraft manufacturing in Wichita. This industry has many flaws and can at times cause its own hazards, but is still a safe and profitable business in Kansas. Our government leaders however seem to think we need to invest in other fields such as coal burning, terrorism or bio chemical warfare. It’s not just our government leader. Our own industry leaders seem to find a way to collapse our economy in the name of “corporate profit.” Already most of the major aircraft companies are owned by other countries. Yes, I mean old favorites like Learjet (Bombardier), Beechcraft (Hawkerbeechcraft), and what use to be half of Boeing (Spirit). All owned in whole or part by Canada. Ok so America didn’t produce the first aircraft assembly plant, but is that any reason to sell American icons? Now Textron is trying to sell Cessna to Arabs. Not that there is anything wrong with Arabs. The ones mentioned are allies of America, but still. This remark was made by President Obama during an address to the Joint Session of Congress, "...CEOs won't be able to use taxpayer money to pad their paychecks or buy fancy drapes or disappear on a private jet." While this kind of talk is damaging to the industry, perhaps the fact that it happens at all is even more damaging. Ask Pres. Obama how well his campaign would’ve went without the use of a personal plane to travel from state to state every day. If fact when the first stimulus package was ready to sign, it had to wait a few days because Pres. Obama was traveling ,by business jet, to visit his family for the holidays. Ok it was Presidents’ Day. Not much of holiday for family get together but who’s to say? One jet manufacturer's owner, Textron, recently put out a memo stating that the executives will no longer be able to be compensated for their country club memberships or private use of their corporate jets. Pretty sad for the executives at a time when thousands of their own workers are being laid-off. At least a few people are standing up for the industry. Sen. Brownback (WWW.brownback.senate.gov) wrote a letter to his colleagues asking for an end to the comments, the Mayor of Wichita, Carl Brewer, has repeatedly invited Pres. Obama to visit Wichita’s aircraft industry to see the damage his words can cause. And let’s not forget Jack Peltons campaign at www.cessnarise.com. The goal should not be to eliminate the use of business jets, but perhaps self moderate the need of them. More time share or maybe..Oh I don’t know.. Leave out the microwaves, leather seats, cookie warmers, LCD TVs, multi DVD players, AirShow components ect. I will try to keep postings of events that affect the industry and our leaders’ attempts to destroy the Kansas way of life. Some of the articles located in the right hand column are taken from Senator Pat Roberts, Congressman Todd Tiahrt as well as snippets about acft news.

Bring Plum Island (PIADC) to Kansas. National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility. As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee that approves funding and oversight for the NBAF project and a member of the NBAF Task Force, I will work hard to thwart any possible delay of the NBAF in Kansas.
Bring coal pollution to Kansas For the fourth time Governor Sebelius has vetoed a bill that would allow two coal-fired electrical generating plants to be constructed in Western Kansas and create thousands of new jobs. This veto falls on the backs of Kansas workers and taxpayers. Given the current state of our economy, we should be encouraging new jobs and assisting workers who produce goods and services that can be exported.
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) Shares of Textron Inc. jumped almost 50% on Thursday, rallying after a Kuwaiti newspaper reported a Middle Eastern group is interested in buying the maker of Cessna jets and Bell helicopters at what would be a hefty premium. Citing unnamed sources, Al-Watan Daily said the unidentified group of companies based in the United Arab Emirates as well as a Kuwaiti firm was offering $21 a share for the Providence, R.I., company, according to a report from AFP. Eliminate the "gross-up" perk (Providence, RI) -- Providence-based Textron Inc. will no longer reimburse its top executives for the cost of taxes paid under a new policy adopted by the company's board of directors in February. The committee voted to eliminate the "gross-up" perk as part of an executive compensation policy belt-tightening. Only one of Textron's five top execs was reimbursed for tax payments in 2008. The committee has also eliminated several other executive benefits such as company cars, country club memberships, financial planning services and income tax preparation. Use of Textron's company plane by executives will now have to come out of the executives' pocket. Textron is one of 49 companies on the S&P 500 to eliminate gross-ups this year.
